Bombay Halwa House

Our shop is located on Anna Salai, right near P Orr & Sons. If you know the Mount Road area, you probably walk past us quite often. This part of Chennai is always full of traffic and people heading to work. We’ve been here at 842/6 for quite some time now. We make different kinds of halwa and snacks every day. The kitchen starts working early in the morning so the smells usually drift out onto the street before we even open. It’s a basic shop, no fancy lights or big signs, just a counter and shelves full of boxes. We spend our days weighing out sweets and chatting with the people who stop in for a minute. Mount Road has changed so much since we first opened, but we’re still here doing the same thing. We don’t have a marketing team or anyone telling us what to do, we just make what we know how to make. Sometimes we run out of the popular stuff by late afternoon, so we have to tell people to come back tomorrow. It’s honest work and it keeps us on our toes. The heat in Chennai can be tough in the afternoons, but the shop stays busy enough that we don’t think about it too much. We just focus on keeping the trays full and the floor swept. It’s a local spot for people who want something sweet without any fuss.
