Seth P D Hinduja Sindhi Model School Kellys is located at No 1 on Damodaran Street. We are right near Kellys Nagappa Motors, so most people in Kilpauk know the spot quite well. It’s an old building with a lot of history in the walls. You can hear the city noise from the street, but once you go inside, it’s mostly just the sound of teachers talking and chairs scraping. We have a lot of stairs and hallways that stay relatively cool even in the middle of the summer. Every morning the gates open early to let the first students in. The watchman knows almost all the parents by face because they've been coming here for years. We don’t go for anything flashy here. The classrooms have wooden desks and big windows that let in the breeze from the trees outside. Sometimes we have to fix a fan or paint a wall, but it’s a solid place for learning. We teach the usual subjects and make sure the kids have time to run around a bit in the small yard. Lunchtime is the loudest part of the day when everyone opens their tiffins and shares food. We’ve seen many families send all their children here one after the other. It feels like a real part of the local community. The traffic on Damodaran Street can be a headache in the mornings, so we tell everyone to come a few minutes early. It’s a busy place with a lot of activity from dawn till dusk. We just keep things moving as best as we can.
