Meenavar Meen Kadai Fish Stall

We are over here in Adambakkam. The shop isn't much to look at but it gets the job done every morning. I usually get in when it is still dark to make sure the fish is fresh from the market. It can get pretty messy with all the ice melting and the scales flying around when we are cleaning things for people. Most of the folks who come by live right around the corner. They know me and I know what they usually want for their lunch. Sometimes the floor gets slippery so you have to watch your step. We have different kinds of fish depending on what the boats brought in that day. If it's a bad weather day at sea, the crates are a bit empty, but usually we have enough. I spend a lot of my time just standing behind the counter with a knife in my hand. My hands always smell like sea water even after I wash them ten times. It's just how it is. We don't have a big fancy sign or anything, just the name Meenavar Meen Kadai Fish Stall out front. It gets hot in the afternoons so we try to get most things moved by then. People ask for specific cuts and I do my best to get it right. It is a lot of work but it keeps us busy. Sometimes the stray cats wait outside hoping for a scrap or two.
