You can find Jaigopal Garodia Vivekananda Vidyalaya at 41, Avadi, right on the Poonamalle Road. It is a very well-known stretch of road, so we get a lot of traffic passing by the front gates every single hour. The building itself is quite large and has been part of the Avadi landscape for years. Many people around here just call it by the shorter name. We don’t have a lot of time for fluff or fancy talk because there is always something to do. Whether it is sorting out the mail at the front desk or making sure the water tanks are clean, the work never really stops. The classrooms are basic with wooden benches and blackboards. We have a lot of windows to catch the breeze because it gets quite hot on Poonamalle Road in the middle of the day. The staff room is usually a bit cluttered with notebooks and tea cups, which is how we like it. It shows we are actually working. We are not a corporate office; we are a school with kids and noise and daily problems to solve. Sometimes the bell rings at the wrong time or a light bulb goes out, and we just fix it and move on. It is a practical place for families who live in the Avadi area and need a school that just does its job. Most of our teachers live nearby and walk to work, which makes it feel like a real community school.
