If you walk down Ramasamy Street in Vetri Nagar, you’ll see our shop at number 23/11-A. It’s not a very big place but we’ve managed to pack a lot of paint cans onto those metal shelves. Sometimes I worry the shelves might bend but they hold up okay. The floor always has a few drips of color on it because someone always wants to see a sample on a piece of cardboard. We have different brushes and rollers sitting in the corner by the door. It gets dusty because of the traffic on the street outside. I spend a lot of time just wiping down the lids of the tins. People come in asking for shades of white or blue mostly. They talk about their homes and how the rain ruined their exterior walls last year. We listen and try to find the right bucket for them. My hands are usually stained with a bit of yellow or green by the end of the day. It doesn’t wash off very easily. Vetri Nagar is a nice area but it can get loud in the evenings when everyone is coming home from work. We usually shut the doors around eight. Sometimes we run out of a specific base and have to wait for the truck to come from the main warehouse. It is just how a small business goes day to day here. We just try to keep things moving.
