Govt Secondary School Gadsai

If you go to Ritherdon Road in Vepery, you will find Govt Secondary School Gadsai. We are up on the first floor at No 56. It’s a bit of an old building, the kind you see a lot of in this part of Chennai. Vepery is an older area with a lot of history and tight streets. Our school fits right in. You have to climb the stairs to get to the main offices and classrooms. It gets a bit hot in the summer because the building is old, but we have enough fans to keep the air moving. From the first floor, you can look out and see the bikes and cars zooming down Ritherdon Road. It’s a noisy spot, but you get used to it after a week or two. The kids come from all over the nearby streets. We don't have a big fancy campus with a track or a pool. It’s just the rooms and the corridors. The walls are painted a pale color and have some posters pinned up here and there. We spend our days teaching and grading papers. It’s honest work. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we just have to wait it out. The staff here is mostly local people who have been in teaching for a long time. We aren't looking for attention. We just do our jobs and try to keep the place running as best as we can.
