Govt Secondary School Gadet

If you go to Number 10 on Avenue Road in Nungambakkam, you will see the Govt Secondary School Gadet. Nungambakkam is usually a very busy area with lots of offices and shops, but our street is a little different. The school is a plain building that’s been standing there for quite some time. It’s where the older kids come after they finish primary school. The classrooms are basic, just the usual desks and chairs, and it gets quite warm during the Chennai afternoons. We have the usual sounds of the city drifting in through the windows, like the horns and the distant chatter. It’s not a fancy private school with air conditioning or anything like that. It’s just a government-run place for the local students. We have a small area for assembly and for the kids to hang out during their lunch hour. The teachers are busy people who have a lot of students to look after, so it’s always a bit active in the staff room. We don't have a lot of extra space for things like big sports fields, but we make do with what we have. Most of the students come from the 600034 area or take the bus in from nearby spots. It’s a very straightforward school where the focus is just on getting through the syllabus and passing the exams. We’ve been a part of the Nungambakkam landscape for years, just quietly doing our work.
