Govt Middle School

Down at number 24 on Vellalar Street in Ayanavaram, you’ll find our little Govt Middle School. It’s right in the middle of a residential area, so it’s very much a neighborhood school. In the mornings, you can hear the sounds of the local vendors and the neighbors starting their day while the kids arrive. Most of the students live just a few streets away, so they walk or come on their parents' scooters. The school building is quite old and simple. It’s got that specific look of Chennai government buildings with the tiled roofs and the painted walls that need a fresh coat every now and then. We have a small courtyard where the children do their exercises and eat their lunch. It’s not a big place, so everyone knows each other. The teachers often chat with the parents right at the gate when they drop the kids off. It’s a bit noisy because the street is narrow and there’s always something going on outside, but we’re used to it. We don't have fancy gadgets or a big playground, just the basic classrooms with their benches and chalkboards. It’s a place where the local children get their basic education before moving on to high school. The 600023 area is a tight-knit community, and the school is just another part of that daily life. We keep things simple and try to make sure every child has a seat.
