Government School Pallithennal

You can find us at No 8 A on Chithirai Street which is right in the middle of Chinmaya Nagar. It is a fairly typical street for this part of Chennai with a lot of houses and small shops nearby. Our school building is just a plain structure that fits right into the neighborhood. Usually the day starts with the sound of the metal gate sliding open and the staff trickling in one by one. I have been working here for quite some time and I have seen the neighborhood change around us. The school itself stays pretty much the same though. We have the usual classrooms with the big windows that we open wide to catch any breeze that might be coming through Chinmaya Nagar. We spend most of our time dealing with regular school stuff like lesson plans and making sure the kids have enough notebooks. There is nothing very modern about the setup here but it works for what we need. We use the old-fashioned chalkboards and the desks are scratched up from years of use. It feels like a small community because everyone knows everyone else’s name. Sometimes we have tea in the small break room and talk about the weather or the local news. It is a practical place where we just get on with the job of running a school. We don't try to be anything other than a local government school for the kids around Chithirai Street.
