Government School Daulatpur Hajipur Vaishali

The school is located on 1st Main Road in the Sai Ganesh Nagar area of Pallikaranai. Even though the name refers to Daulatpur Hajipur, we are right here in Chennai at number 247. This part of Pallikaranai is a bit away from the main marshland area, but it still gets quite humid and damp when it rains. The building is a simple one, sitting right on the street where there are mostly houses around us. We have a small entrance where the children gather in the mornings. There isn't a lot of extra space, so the classrooms are used for everything from lessons to lunch breaks. The benches are made of wood and metal, and they have been used by many groups of students over the years. You can hear the sounds of the neighborhood, like dogs barking or the water tankers passing by, through the open windows. We don't have fancy air conditioning, so we rely on the ceiling fans that sometimes rattle when they are on high speed. The teachers spend their day moving from one room to another, carrying stacks of notebooks. It is a local place where most of the kids live within walking distance. In the afternoons, the sun shines directly into the front rooms, so we have to hang some thin curtains to keep the glare off the chalkboards. It's just a regular neighborhood school doing its daily work.
