Government Middle School

Our school is on the second floor at No 417/390, right on the busy MTH Road in the Ambattur area. It’s a bit different because we are located upstairs, so there’s a lot of climbing up and down the concrete steps for the kids and the staff. Being a middle school, we have younger children here, so it gets pretty noisy during the breaks between classes. You can hear the constant traffic from MTH Road all day long, but we’ve all gotten used to the sound by now. The space inside isn't huge, but we make it work for the different grades we have to teach. We have our wooden desks, the chalkboards, and stacks of old books piled up in the corners. Some of the windows don't close perfectly anymore, but they let in a good breeze which really helps when the Chennai heat kicks in during the afternoon. Most of the families who send their kids here work in the local shops or the industrial estates nearby. We see them every morning at the entrance. We aren't a big, fancy institution with a large playground for sports. We are just a small government school tucked away in a commercial building. It’s practical and it serves the people living around Ambattur well enough. We spend a lot of time on basic reading, writing, and math. It’s hard work sometimes, especially with the younger ones who have a lot of energy, but it’s what we do.
