Government Middle School Poma

This middle school is on Periyar Nagar 4th Street in the Madipakkam area of Chennai. The address is 907/2, and it’s a government-run institution for kids in the middle grades. Being in the 600091 area, we are surrounded by houses and small shops. It’s a fairly quiet street compared to the main roads. The school building is simple, with a few floors of classrooms. We don’t have a lot of fancy amenities like air conditioning or a big computer lab. It’s just rows of benches and blackboards. The teachers here are dedicated to their work and spend most of the day in the classrooms with the kids. We have a small courtyard where we gather for the morning prayer. There are a couple of old trees that give some shade, which is a relief in the Chennai heat. Most of our students live within walking distance, so you see them arriving in groups every morning. The office is small and usually stacked with registers and government forms. Sometimes the electricity goes off for an hour or two, so we just open the windows wider. We don't have any big mission statements or promotional material. It’s just a place where children come to get their education. We follow the state syllabus and try to make sure every student understands the lessons before they move on to high school. It’s a regular, hardworking school.
