Government Higher Secondary School Sultanpur

Our school is tucked away on 2nd Street over in Ashok Nagar. If you are familiar with this part of Chennai, you know it is mostly a residential area, which actually makes it a pretty decent spot for a school to be. We are in the old building, which some people call number 5 and others call number 7, it really just depends on which old sign you are looking at on the wall. It is a government higher secondary school, so we get the older students coming in from the local neighborhood and the other surrounding parts of the city. The rooms are very basic, with just the standard desks and chairs and boards. We spend our days trying to get the kids to keep their heads down and focus on things like math and science. It is a lot of work for the teachers, especially with the large class sizes we usually have to manage. The morning assembly is normally the loudest part of our day. We do not have a lot of bells and whistles or fancy technology. It is just an honest, simple place for kids to come and learn. We have been here in Ashok Nagar for a long time now. The big trees outside give us some nice shade, which everyone appreciates during those really hot summer months. Most of the students either walk or ride their bikes here from the nearby streets. We know most of the parents and we know the people who run the shops on the corner. It feels like a small community inside a very big city.
