Government Higher Secondary School Sarekha

We are based over on Anderson Road, which is right near the Greames Road area in Chennai. It is a very busy part of the city because of all the big hospitals and the offices nearby, but our school has its own little corner there. This is the Sarekha government school, and being a higher secondary institution means we have to deal with a whole lot of students every single day. The building is at Cochin House and it has some history to it, though nowadays it is mostly just a place where we do our daily work. We have the usual classrooms that are filled up with wooden benches and plenty of old textbooks. The traffic on Greames Road can be a real headache in the mornings, but once the gates are finally closed for the day, it is all about the lessons. We do not have a big budget for things like decorations or new paint, so we just make sure there is enough chalk for the boards and plenty of seats for every student. The staff who work here are mostly local people, and many of them have seen this whole neighborhood change quite a bit over the last few decades. It is a very practical environment to work in. We focus mostly on the exams because we know that is what is going to help the students later in their lives. Sometimes the power goes out and we just have to open all the windows as wide as they will go. It isn't a perfect place, but it is where the real work happens every day.
