Government Higher Secondary School Boys Mandideep is tucked away at No 54/5 on School Road. Being in Selaiyur, we are surrounded by a lot of houses and small shops. The school isn't hard to find since the road is named after it, really. It’s a place for the boys in the 600073 area to finish their schooling. We keep things pretty simple here. The classrooms have the basics, and the teachers focus on the daily lessons. It's not a place with a lot of extra money for fancy things, so we make do with what we have. Sometimes the roof leaks a little during the heavy Chennai rains, but we put out buckets and carry on. The yard is where the boys spend their time when they aren't in class. It’s a bit of a rough and tumble place, as you’d expect with a bunch of boys. We don't have a big office or anything. Most of us sit in the staff room and grade papers between classes. The neighborhood knows us well, and we see the same families coming through year after year. It's a steady, predictable sort of place. We aren't doing anything flashy, just providing a spot for education in our part of town. Every morning the bell rings, the gates open, and we start another day of teaching and learning until it’s time to head home in the evening.
