Government Higher Secondary School Andavata Jeerapur

This school is located on the ground floor of the Plaza Center on G N Chetty Road. It’s right there in Thousand Lights, which is usually packed with cars and people going to work. Being in a shopping center isn't where most people expect to find a school, but we’ve made it work for a long time. The address is No 29 and we take up a good bit of space on the floor. It can be a little dark in the back rooms because we don't get much natural light inside the mall area, so we rely on the tube lights quite a bit. The floors are just plain tiles and they show the dirt pretty quickly with so many feet walking over them every day. We don't have a big open space for the kids to run around, so they usually just hang out in the corridors or step outside to the pavement for a bit of air. It’s a very urban setup. The walls have some posters and charts pinned up, but they’re starting to curl at the corners. We keep a simple schedule and try to stay out of the way of the other businesses in the building. It’s an honest place where kids from the area come to get their certificates. Nothing fancy, just desks, books, and the sound of lessons echoing off the concrete walls throughout the day. We just try to get the work done and help the students as much as we possibly can.
