Government High School

If you head over to Valasaravakkam, you will find the Government High School at No 12B Annai Illam. We are situated on 4th Street in AKR Nagar, which is right near Sridevi Garden. It is a residential kind of area, so the school feels like it’s tucked into the community. The building, Annai Illam, wasn’t originally built as a big school campus, so it has a more personal, smaller feel to it than the massive institutions. We have high school students coming in from the surrounding streets every morning. The walk up 4th Street is usually quiet until the school hours begin. Inside, we have our classrooms set up across the floors. It’s a bit of a tight squeeze sometimes, but we make it work for the number of students we have. There’s always the sound of pens scratching on paper and teachers giving their talks. We have a small desk at the front where visitors can check in. It’s a plain place, with just the basic furniture and plenty of books stacked around. Living and working in Chennai 600087 means dealing with the humidity, so the fans are always going. We don’t go in for fancy marketing. Most of our students come from families who live just a few blocks away. It’s a very local operation. We just focus on the daily schedule and making sure the students are where they need to be. It’s a straightforward school for the neighborhood.
