This is Government Boys Higher Secondary School Sijahata, located at No 14, Bharathidasan Street in Avadi, Chennai 600054. We’ve been sitting on this street for quite some time now, serving the boys from the Avadi area. The school is a simple structure that houses various classrooms for the older students. Bharathidasan Street is a regular residential road, so the school blends right in with the neighborhood. You can hear the sounds of the boys playing or talking during their breaks. It's not a very big campus, but we make the most of the space we have. Most of the families around here have had at least one son come through our gates over the years. We don't have any fancy mission statements or corporate goals; we just show up every day to teach the boys what they need to know. It’s a very practical environment. The teachers are dedicated to their work and the students are mostly from the local working-class families. It can get quite hot in the afternoons, but we just keep the fans going and carry on with the lessons. People in Avadi know us well because we’ve been part of the landscape for so long. It’s just a typical government school where hard work is the main thing. We keep it simple and focus on the basics.
