Gourishankar High School

Gourishankar High School is located at No 72/2 on Godown Street in the Parrys area of Chennai. If you have ever been to Godown Street, you know it is famous for all the wholesale shops and the narrow lanes. Our school is right in the thick of it. It is a high school, so we have the older kids who are navigating these busy streets every day to get to class. The building is older and matches the rest of the architecture in this part of town. Inside, it can be a bit dark because the buildings are so close together, but we have enough lights to keep things going. We don’t have a lot of extra space for things like a gym or a massive auditorium. Everything we do happens in our standard classrooms. The teachers have their own little corner where they sit and grade papers during their free periods. You can always hear the sounds of the city outside—the carts moving, people shouting, and the general hum of Parrys. It is a practical environment for learning. We aren't a high-end private school with a lot of resources. We are just a local high school trying to help the students in this crowded part of Chennai get their education so they can find a good path forward in life. It is noisy and busy, but we make it work every day.
