Abacus Montessori School

We are located over in Perungudi, specifically in the Thirumalai Nagar Annexe. Our school sits on III Main Road. It is a relatively quiet corner if you compare it to the main OMR stretch nearby. Abacus is a Montessori school, so things are done a little differently here than in the big, traditional schools you see elsewhere. We do not have long rows of desks or a teacher standing at the front of the room talking all day. The children move around more and choose their tasks. The building fits into the residential neighborhood quite well. You might actually drive right past it if you weren't looking for the sign. We like it that way because it feels more like a community space than a big institution. The trees around the yard provide some much-needed shade during the hot months. We have been in Perungudi for a long time now and have watched the whole area turn into a massive IT hub. However, inside our walls, it is still just about the kids and their daily learning. It is a very practical setup. We don't have shiny marble floors or anything like that. It is just wood, mats, and the specific learning materials we use. The staff here really care about the Montessori way. It involves a lot of manual work and keeping things organized. We spend our days making sure the environment is ready. It is a steady, calm life here.
