Saraswathi Matriculation School

We are located at 148 in Urapakkam, which is a bit of a way out in Chengalpattu. It’s a growing area, lots of new houses and apartments going up around us lately. The school is a familiar sight for people living in this neighborhood. We’ve got a simple gate and a courtyard where everything happens. In the morning, it’s a sea of uniforms as everyone lines up. We don't have a massive campus, but it’s enough for the kids we have enrolled. They play a lot of cricket in the dirt whenever they get a chance during the breaks. The classrooms are basic, just desks and boards for the teachers. We keep the windows open for the air, though it can get a bit hot during the summer. It gets dusty because of the construction work nearby, so we are always sweeping the floors. Our staff is mostly local people from Urapakkam or the next village over. We know the families well. Some of the kids are the second generation coming to this school, which makes us feel old. We don't do anything too fancy or modern. It’s just about teaching the subjects and making sure the children behave themselves. The school bell is an old manual one that someone has to hit with a hammer every hour. It’s a reliable sound. We have a small office where we keep the records and talk to parents. Sometimes we sit outside in the shade when it’s too hot.
