Ananthavalli Matriculation Higher Secondary School sits at No 182 on the GST Road in Urapakkam. Because we are right on the main road, there is a constant drone of buses and lorries passing by throughout the day. The school building is a solid structure that has been standing in Chengalpattu for quite some time now. We have several floors connected by concrete stairs that the students run up and down between periods. The classrooms are filled with wooden benches that have been scratched over the years by many different students. In the mornings, the gate is a busy place with parents dropping off their children on scooters before heading to work. We have a small office where we keep all the records and files in big steel cupboards. The teachers here are mostly from the local Urapakkam area or nearby places like Vandalur. We have a focus on just getting the syllabus finished and making sure the exams go off without any trouble for anyone. During the lunch hour, the smell of sambar and rice fills the corridors as everyone opens their boxes in the classrooms. There isn't much green space since we are so close to the highway, but we have a small yard in the back for the morning assembly. It is a straightforward place, and we just do our best to manage the daily rush of a big school in a busy part of town. We try to keep things organized despite the noise.
