Rupa & Co. is located at Plot No. 7/16 on Ansari Road in Daryaganj. If you know anything about the book trade in India, you know that Daryaganj is the place to be. It’s a crowded, energetic area and we’ve been part of it for decades. Our building isn’t one of those new glass towers; it’s a solid, older structure that has seen a lot of history. Inside, it’s a bit of a maze with stacks of books and manuscripts everywhere you look. We publish all kinds of stories and information, and the office is always buzzing with editors, printers, and people moving boxes. It’s a very hands-on kind of business. We don’t have much time for corporate meetings or polishing our image; we just want to get the next book out the door. The streets outside are usually packed with vendors and shoppers, which gives the whole place a lot of life. We like being in the thick of it all. Most of us have been working here for years and we’ve developed a real rhythm to how we handle things. It’s not always perfectly organized, and sometimes things get a bit loud, but that’s just the nature of publishing in Delhi. We’re proud to be part of the Ansari Road community and we just keep doing what we’ve always done. It is a messy, beautiful business and we wouldn't want to be anywhere else but right here in Daryaganj.
