Garment Export House

This garment house is located at 39/4 in Old Rajinder Nagar. If you walk inside, the first thing you notice is the sound of the machines. It is a constant rhythmic noise that you eventually stop hearing after a few hours. There are rolls of fabric everywhere, mostly cotton and blends, stacked up against the walls. We do a lot of exporting, so there are always cardboard boxes being taped up and labeled for shipping. It gets pretty crowded when a big order is due. We have tailors who have been sitting at the same benches for a long time, and they can sew a seam straighter than anyone I know. The lighting is bright because you need to see the threads clearly. Sometimes we have issues with the electricity cutting out, which is just part of living in Delhi, so we have to wait it out. It isn't a fancy showroom with mannequins; it is a workspace where clothes get made. There’s thread on the floor and scraps of cloth in the corners. We drink a lot of tea from the stall down the street while we check the measurements on the samples. It’s a busy environment where everyone is focused on their own machine or cutting table. We just keep our heads down and make sure the boxes are ready for the truck when it arrives at the door. It is hard work but we have a good rhythm going here.
