Khadi Gramodhog Bhawan

You can find us at 2011 Karol Bagh Bank Street. This is one of those old-school shops that has been around for ages. Khadi Gramodhog Bhawan is the name on the board, and we specialize in the kind of things you’d expect—lots of khadi cloth, handmade soaps, and traditional items. Karol Bagh is always loud and full of people, but inside the shop, it’s a bit different. We have these tall wooden shelves that go all the way to the ceiling, filled with stacks of fabric in every color. The building itself is quite old, and you can tell by the way the floor creaks in certain spots. We don’t have fancy displays or those bright lights you see in malls. Instead, we have ceiling fans that have been spinning for years. People come here because they know they’ll get real cotton and stuff that lasts. We spend a lot of time measuring out fabric or folding clothes that have been ruffled through. It’s a slow process compared to modern stores, but we like it that way. Most of our regular customers are older folks who have been coming to Bank Street since they were young. They like to sit and talk for a bit while we wrap up their purchases in paper. It’s just a steady, traditional place in the middle of a very busy market.
