Maha Mangla Bricks

Down at Plot No-196 in Badagualipada Puri, you’ll find Maha Mangla Bricks. It’s a fairly large space where we keep everything running. Being in Puri, we get all kinds of weather, which can make the brick-making process a bit tricky sometimes. We’ve got the red earth and the water mixed up most mornings to get the batches started. It’s messy work, and the mud gets everywhere, but that’s the only way to get a good brick. We aren’t some big corporation with suits and ties. We’re usually wearing old clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. The neighbors around Plot No-196 are used to the smoke from the kiln when we’re firing a new batch. It takes a lot of wood and coal to keep the heat where it needs to be. We just stay busy with the orders that come in. Some days are slower than others, but there’s always something to fix or a pile of bricks to move. We don’t have a website or anything like that, we just talk to whoever walks onto the lot. People come by, look at what we have, and we figure out a price. It’s pretty straightforward. We've been in Badagualipada for a while now and we just keep doing what we know how to do, one brick at a time. It's a living and it keeps us occupied throughout the year.
