We are located out here in Balabhadraprasad, which is a bit of a drive if you’re coming from the main town area. Most days start pretty early because you want to beat the heat before it gets too bad around noon. The yard is usually full of stacks of bricks waiting to be moved or loaded onto whatever truck shows up that day. We handle everything from digging to the final firing. It gets dusty, and your hands get rough, but that’s just how it goes in this line of work. Kaithkhola is the post office we use, and Dhamara is the main way in. People around Bhadrak know the area well enough. There isn't much fancy about what we do. It’s just about getting the right soil and making sure the fire in the kiln stays at the right temperature for long enough. Sometimes the weather doesn't help us, especially when the rains start coming down hard and we have to cover everything up with plastic sheets. It’s a lot of physical labor, and we’ve got a small crew of local guys who have been doing this for years now. They know the rhythm of the work better than anyone. We don’t really spend time on big ads or anything like that. People just find us or hear about us from their neighbors who are building a wall or a small house nearby. It’s a simple life out here in the district, just making bricks one day at a time.
