Down in Gumgaon, which is part of the Damaghir area in Tehsil Chand, you will find us at house number 169. We are the Kulbehra Farmers Producer Company Limited. This place is pretty quiet most of the time, away from the big cities. We are a group of farmers from this village and the surrounding post areas who decided to join up. It was not about being fancy or starting a huge corporation. It was just about making sure we had a way to manage our farming together. We deal with the day-to-day stuff like getting seeds and checking on the growth of the crops. Most of us have dirt under our fingernails and we prefer it that way. The office is just a room where we keep our files and meet up to talk about the season. It is not always perfectly tidy because we are usually coming in straight from the fields. We do not use a lot of big words or complicated plans. We just look at what needs to be done on the land and we try to do it. Living in Gumgaon means we all know each other's families and how our neighbors are doing. That is the kind of business we run. It is built on being local and knowing the land we work on. We just want to keep the farms productive and look after our own. This is our life.
