Veda Art Gallery is tucked away in Kumara Park 1. It’s a pretty quiet area, which works well for what we do here. We have different artists bring their work in, and we spend a lot of time just hanging frames and figuring out where things look right on the walls. The lighting can be tricky in this old building, so we are often moving lamps around to get the shadows off the paintings. People walk in from the neighborhood just to look, and we don't mind that at all. It’s not a very large space, so it can feel a bit crowded if more than five people are here at once. We try to keep the floors clean, but with people coming in from the street, there is always some dust. We don’t do big fancy openings with drinks and all that. It is mostly just people stopping by to see what is new. Sometimes we have to move the furniture around to fit a bigger piece of art, which is a bit of a workout. The garden outside needs some work, but inside we try to keep things looking decent enough for the visitors. We spend our days talking to the people who come in and keeping track of the inventory in our old ledger. It’s a nice way to spend the time, even if it’s not always busy. We just like having the art around us while we work here in Kumara Park.
