Sri Ranganatha Book Stall

If you go down Avenue Road, you’ll find us at number 76. Sri Ranganatha Book Stall is right across from the Bata show room, which is a big landmark for people who aren't familiar with the street. Avenue Road is always crowded and narrow, so our shop is a bit tight with all the stacks of books everywhere. We have books piled up from the floor to the ceiling almost. It’s a bit of a maze inside. We sell all kinds of things, from school textbooks to old novels that have been sitting on the shelves for years. I’ve spent most of my life surrounded by paper and the smell of old bindings. We don't have a computer system to tell us where everything is. We just know. If someone asks for a specific title, we usually can point to the right pile. It’s a bit chaotic but it works for us. The noise from the street comes right in through the door, but you get used to it after a few days. We open early because that’s when the students start looking for their supplies. It’s a small family run spot. We aren't looking to change much or become a big chain. We just like being part of the market here. Dealing with books is a quiet kind of business even in a loud place like this.
