Sri Kalikamba Fruit Stall

If you go down to Rajiv Ghandhi Nagara in the Peenya Industrial Area, you’ll find our little spot, Sri Kalikamba Fruit Stall. It’s not a big fancy store with glass windows, just a simple stall where we set out the fruit every single morning. We get here really early, usually before the sun is even up, to unload the heavy crates from the wholesale market. The air in Peenya is always full of the sound of big machines and factories, but our corner is a bit different with all the bright colors of the mangoes, oranges, and bananas. We spend a lot of our time sorting through the stock to make sure everything is good enough to put on display. It's hard work on your back, leaning over crates and carrying boxes all day long in the heat. Most of our customers are workers from the nearby industries who stop by for a quick piece of fruit during their lunch breaks. We know most of them by name since they come by almost every single day. The weather affects us a lot; when it rains suddenly, we have to scramble to pull the plastic covers over the fruit to keep it dry. We don't have a website or any fancy advertisements. We just sit here on our wooden stools and wait for the regulars to come by. The stall has been here for a long time, and we've just kept it going year after year.
