About Sree Rajarajeshwari Shilpa Kala – Art & Craft in Bengaluru
You’ll find our workshop right across from the Kavika Factory in Byatarayanapura, along the busy Mysore Road. At Sree Rajarajeshwari Shilpa Kala, we spend our days working on stone and traditional crafts. It’s a dusty job, and you can usually hear the sound of chisels hitting stone if you walk by. We’ve been in this spot for years, and the yard is filled with various pieces in different stages of completion. Some are just big blocks of stone, while others are nearly finished works. It takes a lot of patience to do what we do, and we don't like to rush the process. People come to us when they want something specific made for a home or a local temple. We don't have a fancy showroom; the work speaks for itself out in the open air. The Mysore Road traffic is always humming in the background, but we get used to it. Most of our workers have been with us for a long time and learned the trade from their families. It’s a bit of an old-fashioned way of doing things, but it’s the only way we know. We don't use any high-tech gadgets, just simple tools and our hands. It's a modest place, but we take pride in the items that leave our yard. Each piece takes time, and we just take it one day at a time here.
