Nrithya Prakasha Varshini

We’ve been here in Banashankari 2nd Stage for a while now. It’s a busy spot near house 1300, and you can usually find us there from morning until the evening. Mostly we just spend our days teaching and practicing. The floors need sweeping a lot because of all the feet coming through throughout the week. It is not a big fancy place, just where we do our work. People from around the neighborhood stop by often to ask questions or just to see what we are up to. Sometimes the music is loud, but the neighbors are mostly okay with it because they’ve known us for years. We started this because we needed a space to keep the dance going in this part of town. It's mostly just us and the students. Some days are long, especially when we have extra sessions before a big event. We keep the doors open and try to stay organized, though the desk usually has piles of paper and old notebooks on it. It’s a local thing, really. Nothing too complicated or corporate. We just focus on the steps and making sure everyone knows where to stand during the routines. It gets quite hot in the afternoons, but there is a decent breeze if we keep the windows open. Most of the kids come after their school ends, so the evenings get pretty loud and energetic. We have some old mats and the mirrors are a bit streaky, but it works for what we need. Life here revolves around the daily schedule and making sure the lights are turned off at the end of the night. It's just a normal part of the community here in Banashankari.
