Nandini Milk Parlour

This parlour is up on the third floor of the Ajanta Commercial Centre. It’s a bit of an unusual spot for a milk booth, being inside a building like this near the Income Tax office. Most of our customers are the people who work in the offices nearby. They come in during their breaks for a cold drink or some curd. We have the usual blue and yellow crates stacked up near the entrance. The fridge hums loudly all day long. It’s a small space, so it gets crowded quickly around lunch time. We spend a lot of time wiping down the counters and checking the dates on the packets. Since we are on the third floor, we rely a lot on the lift. When the lift is broken, carrying the crates up is a real struggle for everyone. The light in the hallway is a bit dim, but our shop is bright inside. We don't have a place for people to sit, they just stand and chat for a minute before heading back to their desks. We have a small calendar on the wall where we mark the deliveries. It’s not a very quiet place because of all the office noise and the traffic down on the street. We just keep the milk cold and the snacks ready. It’s a steady routine from morning until we close up in the evening. We usually finish up when the building starts to get empty around six or seven.
