Mayuri Cultural Academy

Mayuri Cultural Academy is tucked away in the Kumarswamy Layout, specifically at No 502 on S B Marg in Lower Parel West. It is a very busy part of Mumbai, so there is always a lot of noise from the street traffic coming up through the windows. We teach several different things here, mostly traditional dance and some local music. The floor is made of old wood and it has definitely seen a lot of feet dancing on it over the many years we have been open. It is not one of those polished, modern studios like you see on television or in movies. It is a bit worn out and scuffed, but that is only because it gets used every single day by someone. We have students of all different ages coming in. Some are just little kids who cannot seem to stand still for a second, and others are working adults looking for a relaxing hobby after they finish their jobs. We do not have a big staff of teachers. It is mostly just a few of us who have been doing this for a long time. We do not follow a strict corporate schedule here. Sometimes the evening classes run a bit late if everyone is having a good time practicing. We keep all the costumes in a big wooden trunk in the corner. It's a bit of a walk up the stairs, but we like it.
