Mary Matha Store

Mary Matha Store is over at 37/2, 4th Main in the 2nd Cross area of Benson Town. We are pretty close to the Naval Detachment, which is how most people find their way to us if they are new to the neighborhood. The shop is just a simple place with a lot of racks and a couple of old fridges in the back. We open up early, usually around seven, to get everything ready before the morning rush starts. It’s mostly just us here, moving boxes around and making sure the milk and bread are placed where people can see them. The floor is old cement and it has its share of stains from over the years. We have a small desk where the billing happens, and the drawer for the cash sticks a little bit sometimes. There isn’t any fancy air conditioning, just a couple of wall fans that push the air around. On rainy days, the water tends to pool a bit near the front step, so we have to keep a mop handy. Most of the people who come in live just a few houses away. We don't have any big plans or anything like that, we just try to keep the shelves full and the door open. It’s a quiet way to make a living. Sometimes we run out of things and have to wait for the delivery guy to show up on his scooter. It’s just how it is.
