M K Kannan Arts

We are located on the 2nd Floor of the Lakshmi Commercial Complex at 193 Kumbarpet. Finding us in B Block can be a bit tricky if you aren't used to the narrow streets of Kumbarpet. M K Kannan Arts has been in this same spot for quite a long time. The complex is always buzzing with activity and the sounds of the market downstairs. Our workspace is pretty small and it’s filled to the ceiling with art supplies, paper, and various projects we’re working on. It’s definitely not a polished gallery or a fancy studio. There are paint splatters on the floor and stacks of old drawings in every corner. We like the clutter, though, as it makes us feel like we’re actually getting things done. We don't have a receptionist; you just walk in and find someone at a table. We do most of our work by hand, so things take as long as they take. Rushing art just to meet a deadline isn't really how we like to work. People from the neighborhood know to come here when they want something specific made. It’s a quiet life up here on the second floor, away from the worst of the street noise. We just keep doing our work and enjoying the process of making things from scratch every day.
