Lake View Milk Bar

If you've spent any time on MG Road, you probably know where we are. Lake View Milk Bar is at number 8 St Marks Road, just where it meets MG Road. We’ve been serving people here for a very long time. It’s one of those places that hasn’t changed much while everything else around it has. The wooden booths are the same ones from years ago. It gets incredibly crowded on the weekends, especially in the evenings when everyone is out for a walk. We see all kinds of people, from students to old couples who used to come here when they were young. It’s loud, there’s music playing, and the staff is always running around trying to keep up with the orders. Sometimes we run out of certain flavors, and people have to pick something else, but they don't seem to mind too much. The floor is usually a bit sticky by the end of the night. We don’t do fancy marketing or anything like that. People just know we’re here. It’s a bit of a landmark for some. It is interesting that we are still here after all these years when so many other things have changed. It’s a lot of work keeping things running, especially with the city getting so busy. We just keep the lights on and the coolers running. It’s a simple joy, seeing someone enjoy a sundae while watching the cars go by on the street outside.
