About Kumar Super Market – Food & Beverages in Bengaluru
If you walk down the street in Girinagar, you’ll find Kumar Super Market at 59/4. It is not the biggest store in the world, but we try to keep what people actually use. Girinagar is a nice enough area, mostly families who have lived here a long time. We start the day by pulling up the shutters and dragging the vegetable crates out front. The bins inside are usually full of different types of grains and pulses. We spend a lot of time cleaning the glass jars and making sure the prices are visible. Sometimes we run out of things faster than expected because everyone wants the same thing on a Monday morning. The space at 59/4 is a bit tight, so you have to watch your elbows when it gets busy. We don’t have a fancy cooling system, just a few fans that hum all day long. My cousin helps out with the heavy lifting and the deliveries around the block. We use plastic bags only when we really have to, mostly encouraging people to bring their own bags. It is just a routine of checking stock and chatting with the aunties from the nearby apartments. We aren't trying to be like those huge malls. We just want to make sure if someone needs a matchbox or a kilo of rice, we have it ready for them. It's a simple life running a shop here in this quiet corner.
