Jatin Nruthyalaya

Jatin Nruthyalaya is our dance space located in Rajajinagar, specifically on the 2nd Cross in Marappa Garden. We are at number 900 on Nandi Durga Road. It’s a modest studio where we teach dance to whoever is interested in learning the traditional movements. The floor is made of wood and it has a lot of scratches from all the years of practice sessions. It’s not a polished, high-end studio with mood lighting. We have basic lights and a few fans to keep the air moving when it gets humid. You can hear the rhythmic footwork from the street if the windows are open. We get a lot of kids from the nearby houses who come here after school. Their parents usually wait outside or chat near the entrance. It’s a very tight-knit community. We don't have a big marketing budget or a social media manager. We just teach the steps as they were taught to us. Sometimes the music system acts up and we have to fix it on the fly. It’s a bit of a humble setup, but it serves the purpose of keeping the art alive. The neighborhood is mostly quiet, which helps us focus on the rhythm and the expressions. We just keep going, day after day, one lesson at a time, without any grand plans.
