You can find Galerie De Arts on Mahathma Gandhi Road, inside the Jeevan Shobha building at number 11. MG Road is always chaotic, but once you step inside, it gets a lot quieter. We’ve been running this gallery for a while, mostly focusing on whatever art comes our way from local people. It’s not a huge space, just a few rooms where we hang things up. I spend most of my days dusting the frames or talking to the few people who wander in off the street. It’s not a big money-maker, but it’s something we enjoy doing. The building itself is quite old, and sometimes the elevator doesn't work, so you have to take the stairs. We don't have any big corporate backers or fancy events every week. It’s just a simple place for art. Sometimes we host small gatherings where we serve tea and talk about the new pieces. My partner handles the logistics of getting the crates delivered, while I make sure the lighting is okay. It can be a bit lonely when nobody visits for a few days, but then someone will come in and stay for an hour just looking at a single painting. That makes it worth it. We aren't trying to change the world, just providing a small corner for people to see some creative work here on MG Road. It’s a quiet life in a loud city. We just keep the doors open.
