Chittara Art & Craft

Our little shop is right there on Kumthekar Road in Vijaya Nagar. If you know Pune, you know how crowded this street gets. Chittara Art & Craft is packed into a space that honestly feels a bit small some days. We have shelves reaching all the way to the ceiling, filled with bits and pieces for various projects. It’s a bit of a maze inside. Most of our time is spent unpacking boxes or helping people find a specific shade of thread or a particular bead. We don’t have a fancy display window; we just put out what we have. Sometimes the shop feels a bit dusty because of all the paper and fabric, but that’s just how it goes with this kind of work. We’ve been here in Pune for a long time, and we know most of the regulars who come in. They know they might have to wait a minute if we’re busy in the back. It’s not a high-tech operation. We still write things down in a ledger sometimes. The noise from the traffic outside is constant, but inside we just focus on the colors and textures. It’s a bit messy, and we’re always running out of space for new stock, but we manage. People come in looking for something specific and usually end up staying to chat for a bit. It’s just a local spot for people who like to make things. We like being part of the street.
