Bhavasar Ice Cream Mane

Being located in Malleshwaram MIDC 68/5 means we get a lot of people from the factories and workshops around here. The name 'Mane' means home in Kannada, and that's how we try to keep it. It’s not like those big ice cream parlors in the malls with bright lights and uniforms. We have a few deep freezers that hum all night long to keep everything cold. Making ice cream is a lot of work, especially when the power goes out and we have to check the generator. We don't have fifty different flavors. We just make a handful of the ones people like the most and keep them in the display case. On hot days, the shop gets really crowded around five in the evening. You’ll see people in their work clothes standing outside with a small cup or a cone. The floor gets sticky sometimes, so we’re always mopping it up. My wife helps me with the accounts, and we have a couple of boys who help with the serving. We’ve been in this industrial area for a long time, so we know most of the people who walk past our door. It’s a quiet life mostly. We spend a lot of time cleaning the machines and making sure the fruit is fresh. It’s a bit of a mess when we’re making a new batch, but that’s just how it is. We aren't trying to do anything fancy, just selling cold treats to the people in the neighborhood.
