Bharatnatyam Dance Classes

Our dance space is tucked away in Sanjay Nagar. It is a regular spot where kids and some adults come to learn Bharatnatyam. The floors are worn down from all the practice, which I guess is a good sign. We did not start with much, just a room and a passion for the dance. It gets pretty loud with the bells and the rhythm, but the neighbors do not seem to mind too much. We spend a lot of time on the basic steps before moving to anything hard. It takes a long time to get the hand movements right. Sometimes the kids get tired, so we take breaks and just talk. It is not a fancy studio with mirrors on every wall, but it serves the purpose. We keep our schedules taped to the door. Most of the teaching happens in the evenings when everyone is back from school or work. Sanjay Nagar is a busy area, so there is always noise outside too. We have been teaching here for years now. It is just a part of our daily routine. Parents wait outside on the benches while the classes go on. It is a bit cramped when the bigger groups show up, but we make it work somehow. No big ads or anything, people just find us by word of mouth mostly. We just keep the music going and help the students learn the steps one by one.
