Anand Sweets & Savories

We’ve been at number 8 near Chickpet Circle for a long time. People around Cubbon Road know Anand Sweets & Savories well enough. It’s a small shop, and it stays pretty packed most of the time. We make everything right here. The kitchen is always hot and smells like sugar and frying oil. We don’t use machines to do everything; a lot of it is still done by hand because that’s how we learned. Some days the line goes out the door, especially during the festival seasons. We try to move fast, but we only have so many hands. Chickpet is a busy area, and the noise from the circle never really stops. We’ve seen many shops come and go on this street, but we’ve managed to stay put. Our counters are a bit old, and the glass gets smudged by kids looking at the trays, but we keep the food fresh. We don’t have a website or do much advertising. People just know we are here on Cubbon Road. It’s a family thing, really. We spend most of our lives behind these counters. Sometimes we run out of the popular items by noon, and people get disappointed. We feel bad about it, but we can only make so much in a day. It’s just a simple sweet shop trying to keep the traditions going in a city that’s changing way too fast. We focus on the dough and the syrup.
