A1 Fruit Stall & Fruit Merchant

Our stall is located on Kodigehalli Malwadi Road. It’s called A1 Fruit Stall & Fruit Merchant, though most people just call it the fruit shop near the corner. We get our crates of fruit delivered early in the morning from the main city market. Depending on the season, the smells around here change from sweet mangoes to fresh oranges. We spend a lot of time sorting through the pieces to make sure nothing is bruised or going bad on the shelf. It’s a lot of lifting and moving heavy boxes around throughout the day. The road outside can get very dusty with all the traffic, so we are constantly wiping down the fruits so they look decent for the customers. We don’t have a lot of space, just enough for the displays and a small area for us to sit when it's quiet in the afternoons. Sometimes we have a chat with the people who stop their scooters to buy a kilo of bananas or some apples for their kids. The weather really affects us here. When it rains, we have to hurry and pull the plastic covers over everything to keep the fruit dry. It’s a bit of a struggle sometimes when the wind is blowing. We aren’t trying to be the biggest shop around, we just want to sell good fruit to the people in our neighborhood. It's a simple way to make a living and it keeps us busy from morning until late at night.
