If you come down to Kaptanganj and ask for Parmatma Prasad, you will find where we work for Trilokpur Farmer Producer Company Limited. We are located in Nakti, specifically in the Deyibujurg Tin area of Basti. It is a bit of a trek to get out here if the roads are muddy, but this is where the actual farming happens. We spend our mornings checking on the crops and our afternoons sitting in the office space at Parmatma’s house. There is always a stack of papers to deal with, mostly to do with what the local farmers are growing this season. We aren't big city people, so we talk plain and don't use a lot of complicated words when we are discussing the harvest. People from the surrounding villages stop by quite a bit just to see what the market prices are looking like. We have some old wooden desks and a couple of chairs that have seen better days, but they work for what we need. Dealing with seeds, fertilizers, and the logistics of moving sacks of grain takes up most of our energy. Sometimes we lose track of time when the conversation turns to the old ways of farming versus what everyone is doing now. It’s just us trying to keep the community moving forward without losing our minds over the paperwork that comes with running a formal company in Basti.
