Kishtwar Saffron Fed Farmers Producer Company Limited

We are a group of farmers here in Kishtwar, specifically based out of Harijan Basti in Pochall. Kishtwar Saffron Fed Farmers Producer Company Limited started because we wanted to handle our own crops instead of letting others do it all for us. Everyone knows this area is famous for saffron, but the work is actually quite hard and takes a lot of time. We spend our days in the fields and then meet up to figure out the paperwork and where the harvest should go. It’s not always easy keeping everyone on the same page, but we manage. Our office is just a simple place in the village where we keep our records and meet during the harvest season. Living in Pochall means we are right where the plants grow, so we don't have to go far to check on things. Most of us have been doing this since we were kids, learning from our fathers and grandfathers. Now we just have this formal name to make the business side of things a bit more official for the government and the banks. It’s just us, the local farmers, trying to make sure the saffron we grow gets to people without too much trouble. We don't have any fancy machines or big corporate offices, just the land and the collective effort of the folks living right here in the Basti. Sometimes the weather doesn't help us much, but that's just part of farming life in this part of Jammu and Kashmir.
