Mahalakshmi Bags is located at number 11, right near the Khaleel Building in Chickpet. If you know the Goverdhan City Centre, we’re just right there. Chickpet is a crazy place to work because it’s so narrow and packed with people. Our shop is no different. We have bags stacked all the way to the ceiling. Most of what we do is wholesale, so there are always big bundles wrapped in plastic waiting to be shipped out. It’s a lot of lifting and moving heavy boxes around. We don’t have much space for a fancy display, so you just have to ask if you’re looking for something specific. My brother and I run the place with two helpers who have been with us for years. We start early in the morning before the crowds get too thick. It’s hot in the summer because the ventilation isn't great, but we keep the fans going. We don’t spend money on fancy catalogs or anything like that. Most people just see what we have on the floor and decide. It’s a very traditional way of doing business. There’s always a bit of haggling over prices, which is just part of the deal in this neighborhood. We’ve been in this same spot for a long time, and we know most of the other shopkeepers around us.
