Our group is based at number 33 in Basahiya, which is part of Ataraulia in Azamgarh. We call ourselves Azamgarh Jaivik Farmer Producer Company Limited because we are focusing on the older ways of farming without all those heavy chemicals. It’s a bit more work to do things naturally, but we think it’s better for the soil in the long run. We are just a bunch of local guys who grew up in these fields. We spend a lot of time talking about compost and how to keep the bugs away without using the expensive sprays. It isn't a fast way to make money, and some seasons are really lean. We don't have a big office or a bunch of staff. If you come to Basahiya, you’ll see us out there working just like everyone else. We started the company so we could help each other find better markets for our organic stuff. Sometimes it feels like we are just doing things the way our grandfathers did, but with more paperwork involved now. We aren't trying to be fancy or act like we know everything. We just want to grow good food and keep the land healthy for the kids who will take over after us. It’s a lot of trial and error, but we’re sticking with it because it feels right to us. We just hope the weather stays on our side this year and the crops come in healthy.
